Complement C5a is generated in the circulation by the activation of complement. It is a so-called anaphylatoxin of 74 amino-acid residues generated by the action of C5 convertase, which cleaves C5 into C5a and C5b. It is rapidly inactivated by serum carboxypeptidase B, which removes the C-terminal arginine residue generating C5a(desArg) (1).
Purified human C5a
GAU 025-05 reacts with human C5a/C5a(desArg) and cross-reacts with baboon C5a/C5a(desArg).
GAU 025-05 binds to a neoepitope exposed on C5a/C5a(desArg) (1).
GAU 025-05 reacts well with C5a/C5a(desArg). A strong reaction is seen in ELISA with recombinant C5a coated onto the microtiter well.
