Why is the World Kidney Day important for us?
At BioPorto we are committed to improving human health care and therefore would like to bring attention to the worldwide public health issues connected with the kidney. As every year on the second Thursday of March, the World Kidney Day (WKD) is celebrated to increase the global awareness of how relevant kidneys are to our health. Since the incidence of kidney diseases increases, WKD campaigns aim at educating the public, the medical community and governments. It also strives to encourage prevention and early detection of kidney disease. With intention of supporting the cause, BioPorto would like to spread the news about the campaigns and encourage others to join the initiative.
Kidneys and women's health
The risk of having kidney health issues is just as high among women as it is among men. However, the number of dialysis and general disease awareness are lower among women, which decreases the chances of recovery among this group. Because of that, World Kidney Day and the International Women’s Day 2018 are celebrated on the same day, giving the opportunity to reflect on the relevance of women’s health, especially their kidney health.
